“I know I represent the Dominican people”

Chicago (USA), June 7 (EFE).- The Dominican Al Horfordeaves of the Boston Celticsassured this Tuesday that the Dominican community of the city “is special” to him and that he feels grateful for representing “an entire town” in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

“It’s special how people enjoy the team. I’m in contact with the community, for sure. I have a list of restaurants, but I don’t know if I’m going to share it (laughs). There are many to go to. There is a good community in Lawrence, up north,” Horford said at the pregame news conference.

He stressed that being the first Dominican in the NBA Finals is a “dream” and that he is clear that he represents an entire people.

“As a child I was excited, watching the Bulls play in the Finals, dreaming of having an opportunity one day and I am living it. I enjoy the moment. I know that I represent a people and many Dominican players who have come before me and have allowed to be in this position,” he said in Spanish.

“My family is very important and sharing this with my children, my wife, my parents, fills me with great joy. There is a lot of sacrifice that people do not perceive. Now in these moments that one has worked so hard, being able to enjoy them is very special. For me it is a pride, a dream to be on this platform representing our country, “he added.

The Dominican, who is playing basketball at the highest level in these ‘playoffs’, stressed that his philosophy is to give his contribution for the good of the team, without looking at selfishness.

“For me, the way in which I have been successful in my career is to play as a team. I know there are different philosophies, but I have been able to be successful playing as a team, together. We are in a position to win a championship, I feel that this is the form that I enjoy and that I feel that it would give us the best position”, he affirmed.

“I never played for individual things, I played to make my team shine, to be competitive. We have never been able to be in this position and now I am. Being here is special, but winning will be even more special,” he insisted.

He assured that the mentality of his team is “play one game at a time” and that the objective now is “protect the house”.
