Cold shower for iPad owners without the M1 chip. Once again, the small lines at the end of the press release will have been fatal and teach us that only the iPad M1 will be able to take advantage of the new Stage Manager functionality. A practice used more and more quickly by Apple…
Something new, but not for everyone…
Last night, Apple introduced iPadOS16. The opportunity to discover the major new features that will be added to our iPads at the start of the next school year. However, as often with the apple, most of the important new functions are reserved for the most recent models.
Among the announcements, that of Stage Manager seems to have won unanimous support from the community. Once activated on your iPad or Mac, Stage Manager features a revamped interface of your open windows and lets you switch between them with a click.
If the experience looks very nice, some users will unfortunately find themselves sad while reading the rest. As stated by Apple in the small lines (5) at the end of the presentation, the functionality Stage Manager will only be available on iPads with the M1 chip. Apple could have made an effort on this.
The three iPads concerned:
- iPad Pro 11″ M1 (2021)
- iPad Pro 12.9″ M1 (2021)
- iPad Air 5 M1 (2022)
If your iPad is not on the short list above, you will not be able to use Stage Manager next fall when you download iPadOS16. No, you’re not dreaming, even the iPad Pro 2020 is not included. Apple seems to do everything to force its users to switch to the most recent products, and especially under Apple Silicon architecture.
