National football observer Kusnaeni asks the coach Indonesian National team Shin Tae Yong focus on managing the youth squad instead of the senior team.
According to him, Shin Tae Yong will find it difficult to be responsible for many age categories while coaching the Indonesian national team.
“The Indonesian national team can no longer do much. STY’s focus should be on U-20 or U-23. When it comes to prestige, it’s for seniors, but it must be realistic if the senior national team is hard to do anything about,” Kusnaeni told CNNIndonesia. com.
By focusing on a certain age category, Shin Tae Yong’s formula could be better considering that some of the closest championships can only be followed by young players. Some examples include the 2023 U-20 World Cup and the 2022 Asian Games.
“The U-23 National Team is a continuation of the U-20. Later there will be prestigious events such as the Asian Games. [Timnas] senior just give it to someone else, what are you going to do with Shin Tae Yong? Moreover, he has also talked about the mentality of senior players. He realized there wasn’t much that could be changed in [Timnas] senior,” said Bung Kus, his nickname.
“Shin Tae Yong also seems to prefer to train young players. So I think senior players should just leave it to other coaches,” Bung Kus added.
Previously, PSSI General Chair Mochamad Iriawan admitted that the Indonesian national team coach Shin Tae Yong was overwhelmed by dealing with various age groups.
“Actually we hope [Shin Tae Yong] only coached the U-20s for the U-20 World Cup but STY asked to coach the U-20s, U-23s, and seniors, so he was a bit stuck. We will evaluate this,” said Iriawan when interviewed by CNN Indonesia TV.
Iwan Bule, his nickname, claimed that Shin Tae Yong himself asked to train three age groups at once.
In fact, according to him, PSSI asked the 51-year-old coach only to handle the U-20 Indonesian National Team in preparation for the U-20 World Cup.
