Jakob’s golden plan: Right in the height after Bislett

– It was a nice race. I have something good to work on in the coming weeks. It was fun to be back in competition, and it is not many weeks before something important happens, said Jakob Ingebrigtsen in an interview shown by NRK.

In a week, the chances are high that he will be the first of the running brothers in Team Ingebrigtsen to win the “Dream Mile” (mile race) at Bislett, which is the organizer of this year’s sixth Diamond League competition.

After Olympic gold winner and world record holder Karsten Warholm (26) suffered what is believed to be a muscle cramp and had to break his season debut in the 400 meter hurdles in Rabat last Sunday, Jakob Ingebrigtsen – apparently in Warholm’s absence – will be the main attraction during the traditional Bislett Games.

Henrik, Filip and Jakob have run the mile on Bislett several times, but never succeeded in crossing the finish line first.

This time, Jakob must beat, among others, Kenya’s Abel Kipsang (number four on the «mile» in Eugene), Australia’s Stewart McSweyn (won the «mile» at Bislett last year: 3.48.37), Spain’s Mohammed Katir (pers. 3.28.76 in 1500 m ) and his older brother Filip (11th place on the «mile» in Eugene) to add a new historical chapter to the athletics adventure «Ingebrigtsens fra Sandnes».

According to the plan, Henrik Ingebrigtsen will run 5000 meters at Bislett, in a strong field consisting of, among others, Ethiopia’s World Cup gold medalist in 1500 meters indoors in March, Samuel Tefera.

PS! In the World Championships in Eugene, the program is set with two gold medals in mind for Jakob Ingebrigtsen: 1500 meters (heat, semifinals and finals) on the second (July 16), third and fifth championship day (July 19), then 5000 meters ( heat and final) on the championship days seven and 10 (July 24). In the European Championships in Munich a short month later (August 15-21) it is the opposite, first 5000 meters and then 1500 meters – right enough with less sharp competition.
