Many seasoned golfers will never hit a hole-in-one in their lifetime. The former freestyle skier and member of the Cap-Rouge golf club, Caroline Olivier, won two during the same round, a feat of great rarity.
It was at the club where she has been a member since 2006 that the golfer experienced the improbable double, during a small friendly round on Sunday afternoon.
To demonstrate how rare this is, the odds of hitting two holes-in-one in the same round are said to be one in 67 million, according to the National Hole-In-One Registry.
“It’s quite exceptional. I’m starting to realize it a little more. Yesterday (Sunday), when it happened, I thought it was just funny. I’ve always had the reputation of being a sneer and after the second hole in one, I was just laughing, “said, still amused, the heroine of the hour at the club.
A lucky hole
It was at holes number 7 and 17 that the professional physiotherapist distinguished herself.
The irony is that on the same hole number 7 last summer, Caroline Olivier had managed the first hole in one of her golf career. Sunday, it was with the help of her 8 iron that she propelled the ball 125 yards.
“At the time, I flipped less than last year since it was not the first time that it happened to me. I just thought it would help my game“, she said.
It was on the penultimate hole that a good dose of strong emotions seized her, when she repeated her prowess using a 6 iron, for 145 yards.
“The 17th hole green is elevated and I knew I had a good shot, but I couldn’t see the ball. One of my play partners said to me, “Caro, I think she’s in!” I said to myself: come on, it can’t be!
“He ran to the hole and when he confirmed it was another hole in one, I was really tripping,” she said.
A good golfer
It must be said that even if Caroline Olivier prefers to speak of “lucky strokes” rather than an exploit, she leaves nothing to chance in her game. Reigning champion of the club, she has also won five of the last six championships in Cap Rouge.
After a successful career in freestyle skiing, which earned her a number of medals and appearances at the Olympic Games in Lillehammer and Nagano, it was in golf that she reconnected with the adrenaline that competition gave her until on his retirement in 1998.
“I’m doing well, but I wouldn’t win a provincial championship. Golf fascinates me because I have always been competitive and it allows me to continue to surpass myself. I missed it since my retirement from skiing, ”she said.
“There’s nothing that’s going to beat the feeling of my first World Cup win, but the two holes in one, I can say, compared to a lot of the medals I’ve won.”
A nice tour
Once at the chalet, for the traditional 19e hole, Caroline Olivier began to realize the magnitude of the moment.
“People were congratulating me on my hole-in-one. When I told them that I had succeeded in two, it was complete disbelief on their faces. When I arrived, the general manager Marc Gélinas told me that a hole in one gave the right to $100 at the bar. So I had $200. There weren’t that many people, but we were spoiled!”
Golfers like to savor their little beer after a good round. After two holes in one, it was rather the bubbles that were in order.
