Opera gala with world stars in Hannover’s Maschpark also in summer 2022
Hanover (pm). The longing for music enjoyment in the fairytale surroundings of the Maschpark against the backdrop of the New Town Hall will also be fulfilled in 2022. Voices that are never forgotten will be heard on two evenings at the NDR Radio Philharmonic Opera Gala conducted by Ivan Repušic: on Thursday, July 14 and on Saturday, July 16, at 8:30 p.m. The conductor is looking forward to working with the NDR Radiophilharmonie after last year’s great success, as well as to the vocal soloists Adela Zaharia, soprano, Charles Castronovo, tenor, and baritone George Petean.
The three soloists of the Hannover Klassik Open Air
Charles Castronovo, son of Sicilian and Ecuadorian parents, was born in New York, grew up in California, studied at California State University and began his career at the Los Angeles Opera. The tenor was able to take part in the “Lindemann Program” to promote young artists at the New York Metropolitan Opera, made his debut in the opera Pagliacci on the opening night of the 1999/2000 season and has since been at home on all major opera stages.
Baritone George Petean comes from Romania. His international breakthrough came in Rome with Puccini’s “La Bohème”. Petean now makes guest appearances at opera houses throughout Europe; in London he sang under the baton of Plácido Domingo at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Engagements have taken him to the Hamburg State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Opéra Bastille in Paris, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Zurich Opera House and the Bregenz Festival.
The Romanian soprano Adela Zaharia is a “rising star” in the operatic sky. She is the winner of the Operalia competition in 2017 and has been celebrated as a great discovery ever since. In 2020 she sang the role of Lucia Ashton in the premiere of the opera project “7 Deaths of Maria Callas” by Marina Abramovic at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Adela Zaharia is currently a member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and has presented her prime role as Donna Anna (Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”) in Amsterdam, Paris and San Francisco in the current season.
The program of the opera gala
The gala program offers a cross-section of the most beautiful arias and duets that have been performed on stage since the first edition of the Open Air in 2014. You can hear excerpts from Giuseppe Verdi’s “Rigoletto”, “Don Carlos” and “Un ballo in maschera”, Gaetano Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor”, Charles Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” and “Faust”, Jules Massenet’s “Werther” and many more.
