Among those who left the company was Nina Gregory, a former editor of National Public Radio who joined Clubhouse to head up a news partnership initiative.

“A number of roles were removed as part of downsizing our team, and several individuals decided to pursue new opportunities,” a Clubhouse spokesperson told Bloomberg, quoted from Engadget, Sunday (5/6/2022). “We continue to recruit for many roles in engineering, product and design.” he added.

The layoffs were part of a restructuring at Clubhouse, as the company wanted to rethink its growth strategy.

Clubhouse found early success in the first year of the pandemic. The success caught the attention of several better-funded competitors, including Meta, Twitter and Spotify, all of which replicated the app’s core functionality within their own platforms.

Not only silence, the company has also done its best to offer the best live audio experience, adding features like captions real-time and streaming high-quality audio to match its competitors.

However, Clubhouse still faces an uphill battle against big-cap tech giants.
