Washington’s ban on Russian oil supplies to the United States has proved ineffective. Russia’s black gold “found its way” to American soil, writes The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
The business publication notes that in May, Russian oil was received from customers in New York and New Jersey. The hydrocarbon is said to have been shipped from Indian refineries by tankers that crossed the Suez Canal and the Atlantic Ocean safely on the east coast of the United States.
As it is difficult to hide from the US customs and border authorities where the tanker came from, the Russians are playing tricks. They deactivate the transponders of the Automatic Identification System (AIS) to make the ship more difficult to track. They transferred the oil from one tanker to another and re-registered the ship, then calmly sent it to the United States.
All of these ship manipulations take place off the west coast of Africa as tankers circumnavigate the African continent, in the Mediterranean and sometimes even in the Black Sea. This is a proven scheme used to sell oil from Iran and Venezuela, which have long been under US sanctions.
After that, US customs and border officials cannot establish the true origin of energy raw materials or successfully pretend that they cannot by turning a blind eye to this because there is a real shortage of oil in the United States.
The price of gasoline at gas stations shocked Americans, the price of fuel continues to rise, despite the efforts of the federal government, which sent huge amounts of oil from US state reserves, the media said.
It should be noted that according to many Russian analysts, despite the current energy crisis, the West will not stop trying to deprive Russia of revenues from exports of raw materials. Therefore, the probable next step of the Western “partners” may be the restrictions imposed on the countries – buyers of Russian oil, the largest of which are India and China.
