The government plans to increase ticket prices Borobudur temple to IDR 750 thousand for local tourists and USD 100 for foreign tourists. What is the reason?
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said his party agreed to limit the quota of tourists wanting to go up to Borobudur Temple to only 1,200 people per day at a cost of USD 100 for foreign tourists and IDR 750 thousand for local tourists. Luhut said the price increase was solely for the sake of preserving the rich history and culture of the archipelago.
“We also agree and plan to limit the quota of tourists who want to go up to the airport Borobudur temple as many as 1,200 people per day, at a cost of 100 dollars for foreign tourists and domestic tourists of 750 thousand rupiah. Especially for students, we only charge 5,000 rupiah,” said Luhut in his personal Instagram account, as quoted on Sunday (5/6/2022).
“We are doing this step solely to preserve the rich history and culture of the archipelago,” he continued.
Luhut explained that later, all tourists visiting Borobudur temple have to use a tour guide from a local resident. This was done, said Luhut, in order to create new job opportunities for residents around the Borobudur area.
“All tourists will also have to use tour guides from local residents around the Borobudur area, we do this in order to absorb new jobs while at the same time fostering a sense of belonging to this area so that a sense of responsibility to care for and preserve one of the archipelago’s historical sites can continue to grow in the future. the hearts of future generations of young people,” said Luhut.
Luhut said the Borobudur area was not only a super priority tourist destination, but also a quality tourist destination. His party agreed to develop the concept of Borobudur Temple as an international cultural heritage.
“The splice in Javanese which means mutual cooperation is the principle we use to jointly develop the concept of Borobudur Temple as an international standard cultural heritage conservation laboratory,” he said.
“During this morning’s visit, I again emphasized the synergy between conservation and tourism through the ‘single authority agency’ mechanism so that Borobudur is not only one of the five super priority tourist destinations, but also a quality tourist destination,” he added.
Furthermore, Luhut ensured that the principles of the green and blue economy had already begun to be applied according to the direction of President Joko Widodo. The electric bus route Borobudur-Malioboro-Prambanan will also be tested as a shuttle bus for tourism vehicles.
“I also ensure that the application of the principles of the blue, green, and circular economy has begun to be implemented in accordance with President Jokowi’s direction. Therefore, starting today, a trial will be carried out using electric buses as shuttle buses for tourism vehicles. The shuttle bus travel routes include Borobudur- Malioboro-Prambanan. By using electric vehicles and EBT, I think it will further emphasize Indonesia’s commitment to using environmentally friendly energy,” he said.
