The storm of enthusiasm in the fan camp of 1. FC Köln after the official announcement of the transfer of Denis Huseinbasic (20) should have been limited.
The midfielder comes to Geißbockheim from Kickers Offenbach for a small fee (around 50,000 euros). A Euro reinforcement from the fourth division understandably causes skepticism.
However, those responsible have a clear transfer plan, which Thomas Kessler (36) describes as follows: “We are in a difficult financial situation, so we have to use our resources in a targeted manner. We also deal with players that one or the other doesn’t even know, unless he’s very keen on playing football manager.”

The head of the license player department also said openly and honestly in an interview with EXPRESS.de: “I don’t think we will make any transfers where people run through the city center with the polonaise and are happy that they finally have this player’s jersey to get.”
Since there is not enough money to bring in ready-made players, those responsible in Cologne are looking for talented professionals who have what it takes and potential to strengthen FC in the future. “We would like to develop the players in such a way that at some point people will run across the ring in that jersey and be happy that they are playing for us,” says Kessler, describing the goals of a transfer like Huseinbasic’s.
