Roger Federer, for men, and Serena Williams, for women, will not participate in the Wimbledon tournament, the third round of the Grand Slam. The Swiss and the American are not on the entry list for the grass-court tournament scheduled for London from June 27 to July 10.Federer, 40, has not yet played in 2022 after knee surgery incurred at the end of 2021. The Swiss, current 47th in the world, could return in the fall. Williams, 40, has not played since her first-round elimination at Wimbledon in 2021. She has since slipped to No. 276 in the world. Among the other notable absentees, we find the Russians Daniil Medvedev, world No.2, and Andrey Rublev, world No.7, and the Belarusians Aryna Sabalenka, world 7th and Victoria Azarenka, world 15th Belgian side, David Goffin is well among the players registered for the tournament as well as Zizou Bergs who will probably have to play the qualifications for the men. Among the women, Elise Mertens, Alison Van Uytvanck, Maryna Zanevska, Greet Minnen and Kirsten Flipkens, who will play the last singles tournament of her career at Wimbledon, are also registered.
