The northern Mexican city of Monterrey is imposing severe restrictions on its residents to conserve water due to the extreme drought. About 5.3 million people will soon have access to running water only between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m.
The region where Monterrey is located, Nuevo León, has been struggling with water shortages due to the high temperatures of recent times. The mercury has regularly risen above 40 degrees since February. Very little rain is expected in the coming days. A state of emergency is in effect throughout the state of Nuevo León.
Due to the drought, the taps were already turned off in several places in the city. The city is an important business center of Mexico and is also home to a lot of industry.
