Kathy Wilkes is the first person to have been successfully treated with an innovative therapy to treat cancer: it involves reprogramming cells of the immune system through gene therapy so that they attack and control the tumour.
The results are published this week in
«The New England Journal of Medicine» and show that this therapy has managed to control a metastatic pancreatic cancer in this 71-year-old woman and after other forms of treatment had failed.
However, the researchers warn
