Orden uses previously rented Villa Trapp religiously again

Salzburg, June 2nd, 2022 (KAP) The Villa Trapp in Salzburg, which has been rented to hotel operators for 14 years, will in future be used again by the “Missionaries of the Precious Blood” as owners. As the “Salzburger Nachrichten” reported on Thursday, the cult place for “Sound of Music” fans is currently being redesigned into the “House Magnificat”. The Provincial of the Order, Father Ferdinand Zech, specified the plans after the lease expires at the end of 2021: “In the future, lay members of our order will be accommodated in this house. There are also rooms on the second floor for people who want to come to us for inner contemplation or retreats. ” Refugees from Ukraine recently found shelter in an apartment on the ground floor, Zech told the newspaper.

Plans for a “Sound of Music” museum in the idyllic villa in the Salzburg district of Aigen, which were drawn up during tourist use, were not implemented – also due to the pandemic. In the meantime, the chapel is finished, the previous window panes have been replaced with the colorful old church windows that have been preserved. The first lay members have moved in and are helping to adapt the premises themselves. The six Fathers of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood live in the neighboring College of St. Joseph, the Provincial of the Order.

The religious community has owned the villa since 1947, which was built as a country house in 1863 by master builder Valentin Ceconi. Years later, the villa became the property of Baron Georg von Trapp, the “Salzburger Nachrichten” reported. Probably the most famous owner expanded the attic of the villa for his seven children and lived in it until 1938, when the former Imperial and Royal officer and Nazi opponent Trapp had to flee to the USA. There he achieved world fame with his singing family: Millions of fans in the USA know their story under the title “Sound of Music”.
