Valve has indefinitely postponed the release of its official docking station for the Steam Deck. The docking station was previously scheduled for this spring. According to Valve, this delay will not affect production or deliveries of the Steam Deck itself.
The delay coming according to Valve due to “parts shortages and covid-related shutdowns” at its factories. The company says it is “working to improve the situation” and will share more information about the docking station as soon as it can. Valve also says it’s working on improving support for other docks.
The delay of the docking station will not affect the production schedule and reservations of the Steam Deck, according to Valve. Currently, that handheld is already on a waiting list. Users who pre-order a Steam Deck now can expect it at the earliest in ‘October 2022 or later’.
The Steam Deck docking station is designed to use the Steam Deck as a sort of desktop computer. It has three USB 3.1 ports, an HDMI 2.0 connection, a DisplayPort 1.4 connection and an RJ45 connection for Gigabit Ethernet. It is now unknown when the docking station will be released and Valve has not yet shared a suggested retail price.
