The Hang art, contemporary art gallery in Esquieze-Sère hosts its fourth exhibition “And now the space”. It is also the second with “Les abattoirs” in Toulouse, the great museum of contemporary art in Occitania whose mission is not only to present works within it but also to distribute them in the region. It is also the custodian of the works of the CNES which, since 2014, has been supporting contemporary plastic creation with commissions from artists.
It is quite naturally the subject of space that has imposed itself as local heritage and contemporary issue for this exhibition. The Pic du Midi is not far away and we are in a starry sky reserve. The director of the slaughterhouses had come especially from Toulouse for the opening in the company of one of the artists, Loïc Pantaly. Infinite, unknown, modernity or even mysticism, these are the words inspired by the evocation of space. This hostile and fascinating environment continues to inspire artists through their works and their books.
These works come in various forms: painting, video, installation, photography. They rub shoulders and deliver a curious look at the space universe from the 1980s to the present day. A selection of artists’ books calling upon spatial imagery is also presented.
Whether scientific, metaphorical or poetic, the evocation of this environment is singular to the eye of the artist as well as that of the spectator. Embark on an unprecedented exploratory adventure in the setting offered by Hang-art. This exhibition is in place until October 9th. However, do not wait until the last day to visit it. “Modern art does not look at itself, it will see itself” according to Pierre Soulages.
