Life insurance: new record for payments over 4 months

Contributions reached a level unmatched for more than 10 years in a first quarter: 53.7 billion euros against 54.6 billion euros in 2010. Net inflow also returned to its highest level since 2011 in the first four-month period: +10.5 billion euros, compared to +12 billion euros in 2011. Outstanding Life Insurance contracts reached 1,847 billion euros at the end of April, up +1.1 % over one year.

Soaring payments on euro funds

With the significant fall in the financial markets, savers once again placed their regular savings heavily in euro funds in April 2022.

Payments on April 2022

In April 2022, life insurance premiums amounted to 12.5 billion euros, down slightly by −0.5 billion euros compared to April 2021. They fell on the part in euros, by −0 .5 billion euros to 7.7 billion euros, and remained stable in units of account (UA), at 4.9 billion euros. Since the beginning of the year, life insurance premiums have amounted to 53.7 billion euros, which corresponds to the highest level since 2010 (54.6 billion euros). The unit-linked share remains unchanged since it represents 39% of contributions over the month and 40% since the start of the year (39% for the year 2021).

Redemptions & settlements

Benefits, at 10.3 billion euros in April 2022, were also down by −0.8 billion euros. They fell in euros (−0.8 billion euros to 8.5 billion euros) and remained stable in unit-linked terms (at 1.8 billion euros). In total, 43.2 billion euros have been paid out since the start of the year, down by −0.6 billion euros.

Net inflow

In April, net inflows amounted to +2.2 billion euros and posted an increase of +0.3 billion euros compared to April 2021. In UA, it amounted to +3.1 billion euros. Since the beginning of the year, net inflows amounted to +10.5 billion euros, +2.7 billion euros higher than in the first quarter of 2021. Such a high level n had not been observed since 2011 (+12.0 billion euros). Unit-linked inflows reached +€13.9 billion, a new all-time high for the first four months of a year.

It should be remembered that the security and liquidity of their investment remain essential determinants of the choice of savers1. From this perspective, while uncertainty remains as to the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on the global economy, life insurance retains solid assets. »
