Johnny Depp takes the longest in libel case against Amber Heard

The two Hollywood stars got into a relationship in 2012 and married in 2015. A year later, Heard filed for divorce and a contact ban. In 2018, she wrote in an opinion article in The Washington Post that she was a victim of domestic violence.

Depp’s name was not mentioned in the piece, but he still took her to court and demanded $50 million. According to Depp, the piece implied that he assaulted his wife, and he suffered significant financial loss as a result of the allegations because he was no longer offered film roles.

In turn, Heard sued her former husband for orchestrating an online hate campaign against her. That would have had the aim of getting her fired from her role in the film Aquaman 2 and at L’Oreal. Heard believes that Depp has destroyed her reputation and demanded 100 million dollars.

Intimate details

During the trial, a series of witnesses spoke about Depp and Heard’s turbulent relationship, from friends to staff and experts. Heard and Depp also testified themselves and were questioned for days by the other’s lawyer.

Their relationship was discussed in the most intimate detail, from drug and alcohol use to text messages depicting violent fantasies and an incident involving defecating in bed. The case was followed live by millions of people. The state of Virginia, where the case is being held, allows everything to be recorded in court.
