TEXAS – Dallas Cowboys player Marion Barber III was found dead, the team confirmed.
The discovery was made inside the apartment of Barber III located in the city of Frisco, Texas.
The team explained to our sister network, NBC 5, that the former player was unconscious, but the exact cause of his death is not known.
Frisco authorities said Wednesday that officers arrived to check on the welfare of a person at an apartment owned by Barber, but did not provide further details about the person.
Barber would turn 39 on June 10 and was signed by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round in 2005 and spent six seasons in North Texas where his style led to his nickname “Marion the Barbarian.”
After leaving the team in Dallas, Barber spent a year with the Chicago Bears and then retired.
He is also the older brother of Dominique Barber of the Houston Texans and a former player of Thomas Barber of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. They are all children of former NFL player Marion Barber Jr.
Barber was also known for his humanitarian contributions while working with his foundation and helping the community.
Joe Krywalski, one of Barber’s friends, told NBC 5 Wednesday that he was a great person, very generous, religious, played the piano and wanted to learn boxing.
