It’s Friday, May 27, and the patio of the Orcera oil cooperative is just as crowded as a Sunday in the middle of the olive campaign. There are hundreds of people, but the difference with those who come from the countryside in January is clear. Expectantly await the start of a concert, on a stage between hoppers and tanks that has the Yelmo behind them as a witness. The artist Niño de Elche appears and the applause to receive him resonates between trailers and tapes. This is the beginning of one of the most anticipated concerts of the Music Festival in Segura, which opens its first cycle in May to animate the mountains with culture and boost the region’s economy in the perennial fight against depopulation in our province. To find out first-hand how these moments are lived in the area, we have enjoyed 24 hours of performances, artists, audience and especially with the people of Segura de la Sierra and Orcera, hosts of an initiative already consolidated in the musical and cultural scene. Spanish.
Among the attendees there are many who have come from different parts of the province and even from all over the national territory. From Bilbao, Madrid or Levante they have taken advantage of these days to enjoy the quality music programmed by Daniel Broncano, director of the festival, in a unique environment such as the Sierra de Segura. Together they enjoy concerts in cultural and natural monuments, which make the programming of this edition even more special, divided into three cycles.
The festival also has a significant impact on the economy of the region, with accommodation reserved as soon as the dates of the event are known and with a special “joy” in the trade, with bakers and hoteliers tripling the sales of a normal weekend in this era.
This first cycle has ended with more than 6,000 spectators, according to the organization, many of whom will surely repeat on July 29 and 30, when the second part of Música en Segura will take place or in November, the scheduled date for the end of this 2022 edition.
