The plenary session of the city council of Lucena gave this Tuesday its approval to a motion to support the educational community of CEIP El Valle in his fight for ensure that Education maintains the two educational lines with which the center has had during this school year.
The motion, presented urgently by the government team, had the favorable votes from PSOE, Vox and IU and the abstention from PP and Citizens –formations that hold the government of the Junta de Andalucía–
The Mayor of Education, Lourdes Parrastated that the proposal validated by the plenary majority indicates that the educational offer of the Territorial Delegation of Education for the West Zone of Lucena for the 2022-23 academic year it was two lines for each of the centers that make it up –”Al-Yussana”, “El Valle” and “Ntra Sra de Araceli”– but after the closure of the schooling process, the second line of the “El Valle” school has been abolished without the two meetings held by the AMPA “Open School” of this educational center in the territorial delegation, nor the disagreement with this decision of the Municipal School Council, given the argument that a single line corresponds to the 25 applications presented for said center and despite the fact that, after the deadline, a new one was presented request for a place that would add 26, the same ones that this year have served to preserve the two lines.
According to him Municipal School Councilthe loss of the second line will suppose a concentration of students with special academic needs –6 in a group of 25 students–, a fact that could be aggravated by the loss of a support teacher in children and therefore a deficiency in substitutions and reinforcement.
It is also added that the location of the center in a neighborhood with serious social difficulties “supposes a social stigma for the center that can turn it into a marginal center”.
The socialist motion indicates that “it is not intended to reverse the schooling process and that families who have a place in the CEIP “Al-Yussana” or CEIP “Ntra. Mrs. de Araceli” are affected, but to get the quality and comprehensive care for these students of CEIP El Valle, maintaining its second unit”.
PP and Ciudadanos distanced themselves from explicit support for the motion
The spokesperson for Ciudadanos, Jesús Lópezpointed out that “although we are sensitive to the situation of the parents” we must remember that the maximum ratios that apply come from the stage of socialist government and that the decision of Education to eliminate a line by not exceeding the 25 requests “follows the law” and eliminates the administrative obligation to maintain that line. In addition, López indicated that Education has assured this group that the loss of a line will not entail that of the support teacher attached to it, which would be kept in the center.
For its part, Aurelio Fernandez, councilor of the PPdescribed the PSOE’s motion as “opportunist”, for taking place a few hours before the electoral campaign of the Andalusian elections. Fernández reiterated what Ciudadanos had said about the Board’s commitment to maintaining the support teacher and added that the loss of a line in El Valle does not involve the disappearance of any service such as morning class, dining room, supports or transportation and counseling is limited to “complying with what the regulations say”. For the PP, what would improve educational quality would be for the council to update the “even abandoned” facilities of the school.
