Climate data processing: Togo obtains financial support from Canada

(Togo First) – Canada will allocate $20 million (approximately 12 billion FCFA) to 4 countries in the sub-region, namely Togo, Ghana, Liberia, and The Gambia to strengthen the capacity of their national measurement systems , reporting and verification related to climate.

This support aims to facilitate the implementation of firm and effective mitigation policies and measures against climate challenges, thanks to transparent, accurate and comparable information on the sources of emissions that such systems make it possible to obtain. It will be implemented through Nova Sphere, a Canadian not-for-profit company, which “ will help countries monitor their progress in meeting their emissions reduction targets under the Paris Agreement. », Ottawa selon.

“Novasphere is honored to work with the Government of Canada to support the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions and climate governance with its partner countries, Ghana, Liberia, Gambia and Togo. », said Tom Baumann, CEO of Novasphere.

Concretely, the company will deploy targeted technical and financial support for climate governance to help build the capacity needed to put in place effective measurement, reporting and verification systems.

It will also be a question of supporting Togo and the other beneficiaries, to train themselves in the search for new financing, to implement their national policy of adaptation, in the face of climate change.
