500 million euros to be allocated to Lithuanian military mobility projects / Article

The Minister of Transport Marjus Skuodis informed that investments are planned in roads, railways, airports and the seaport so that the Allies can move easily in all directions.

The projects are very important, as the 65-kilometer border between Lithuania and Poland is the only ground corridor through which NATO troops can increase their presence in the Baltic States.

The joint list of projects of the Ministries of Defense and Transport includes the reconstruction of the Via Baltica highway to the border with the neighboring country, the construction of bypasses and the reconstruction of the Vilnius-Klaipeda highway.

It is also planned to modernize the signaling and related systems on the railway “Baltic Baltica” section and to expand the platform of Kaunas Airport aircraft and adapt the coverage to the needs of military aircraft.

At the joint press conference, the two ministers emphasized that these investments will not only improve the mobility of Lithuanian soldiers and their foreign allies, but will also provide better routes for the people themselves.
