This is how you can make full use of the 9-euro ticket from June
It sounds very tempting: instead of taking the car, how about taking the bus to work or taking a weekend trip to the mountains on a regional train? The federal government’s 9-euro ticket makes this possible, and cheaper than ever before.

Go on holiday with local and regional transport
From the beginning of June to the end of August, passengers should then be able to travel in second class for only 9 euros per month in local and regional transport throughout Germany. However, this does not apply to long-distance traffic operated by Deutsche Bahn AG, such as ICE or IC. Exactly the trains we would use to travel the long and expensive routes. But that’s not tragic:
If you are willing to accept long journeys and many changes, you can also travel to the most popular cities in Germany with the regional trains. So you could theoretically drive from Munich to Sylt and almost for free!

The best local transport routes for your trip to Germany with the 9-euro ticket
So that you can start your trip to Germany immediately in June, we have put together an overview of the top routes for you here:
- Munich – Cologne (direct)
9.5 hour drive, 4 changes (Munich-Nuremberg-Würzburg-Frankfurt-Koblenz-Cologne)
- Munich – Cologne (stopover in Lindau, Lake Constance)
from Munich to Lindau: 2.5 hours drive, 0 changes
from Lindau to Cologne: 9.5 hours drive, 5 changes (Lindau-Stuttgart-Karlsruhe-Mannheim-Mainz-Koblenz-Cologne)
- Munich – Sylt (stopover in Frankfurt)
from Munich to Frankfurt: 5.5 hours drive, 2 changes (Munich-Nuremberg-Würzburg-Frankfurt)

These travel routes can of course be varied and supplemented as desired. For the long distances, it would be advisable to insert overnight stays. Depending on how much time you have available for your trip, you can also take a closer look at the cities where you change trains anyway.
