Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova has been deposed by parliament. The parliamentarians believe that Denisova has not sufficiently committed to human rights since the Russian invasion.
Denisova allegedly failed to create humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to flee the violence of war.
In addition, the ombudsman is accused of having done too little for children who have been sexually abused and soldiers imprisoned by the Russian army.
President Volodymyr Zelensky’s party gathered enough votes for a no-confidence vote and a majority in parliament voted on Tuesday to remove Denisova.
Denisova has served as the human rights ombudsman since 2018. It is not yet known who will succeed her.
