Why is he a thief, what achievement?

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Deputy Chairman of Commission III DPR Desmond Junaidi Mahesa criticized the Police for not firing AKBP Raden Brotosenoone of the middle-ranking officers who became a former convict in a bribery case.

Desmond questioned the National Police’s claim that Brotoseno had good behavior and achievements. According to Desmond, the claim is wrong because the person concerned has been convicted.

“Actions that are not firm on criminal decisions, but are considered as if they are achievements, what achievements? There should be someone who, because of the criminal justice system, has no achievements. A thief, really. A thief, really,” he told reporters at the parliament complex, Tuesday ( 31/5).

Desmond assessed that the National Police’s decision to defend Brotoseno actually damaged the image of the Bhayangkara corps. According to him, a person especially a member of the police who is found guilty of committing a crime should not deserve to be defended.

The Gerindra politician was therefore surprised by the decision by the National Police to defend him.

“Well, defending its members too much, in my opinion, will damage the image of the police agency itself,” said Desmond.

The Gerindra politician questioned the parameters used by the Police to defend Brotoseno. If it is considered good behavior, in fact Brotoseno has harmed the state by accepting bribes.

Commission III of the House of Representatives, said Desmond, will question the matter directly to the Police in a hearing which will be held in the near future. He will even evaluate the police leadership in that case.

“If he behaves well for the police, but for this nation a crook, what good behavior is that,” he said.

“We have to evaluate the police leadership. Or we have to evaluate the police law. Because it is not in line with the wishes of the community. It is not in line with the morals of the community,” Desmond added.

Brotoseno was arrested by the Bareskrim team in 2016 related to the bribery case of alleged corruption in printing rice fields in Kalimantan for the 2012-2014 period.

He was found guilty by the panel of judges and had to serve a criminal sentence of five years in prison in 2017. Brotoseno was then paroled on February 15, 2020.
