“We give you the pants. Suit with vest – a whole set. BGN 190”, “All your needs in … Onur market”. Such amusing billboards, lost in the Turkish-Bulgarian translation, – otherwise with serious content, can be seen on the way to Edirne, Turkey, Maritsa writes.
The famous “cheap market” there, as it is known on forums and social networks in our country, continues in full force. Due to the low but stable exchange rate of the Turkish lira, most goods in our southeastern neighbor are really cheaper even during the current economic crisis.
For example, quality olive oil, which costs an average of about BGN 15 in Bulgarian stores, can be found for BGN 5-7. The prices of fruits and vegetables are also almost half, and well-known over-the-counter drugs are also known in Bulgaria. spring allergy can be bought half as cheap – if here a pack of standard antihistamines for allergies is about BGN 10, then in Edirne it costs the equivalent of BGN 4.50.
High-quality cotton textile clothes are also half as cheap as in our country. The same applies to detergents, as the main indicator of good quality is the price, but even the most expensive washing powder, for example, is much cheaper than in our country – in Sofia 10 kg. run on average about 24-25 levs, while the same in Turkey does not exceed 10-12 levs.
The restaurants are also working at full speed, and the cheap raw materials suggest that the price for the end customer is very different from that in Bulgaria: half and more cheaper lunch with friends in local restaurants.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, however, the border is congested and difficult to cross. If you still decide to visit Edirne – even if only on a trip, choose another weekday during the week.
