On Friday, June 24th, three young bands will present a mixture of soul, reggae and rock from 5 p.m. No longer on the market square, as was the case before Corona, but in the beer garden of the youth facility. Manager Stefan Wehlings and his team want to create a little beach atmosphere there.

The bands have already been signed: “Nick of Time”, “Betrayers of Babylon” and “Soul Explosion” should ensure a good mood in the city center at the “Summertime Festival” well into the evening. “We’re going to scale things up a bit and go back to our roots,” says Stefan Wehlings. In view of larger festivals such as “Rock this town” (June 18) and “Rock Sommernacht” (July 10 and 11), the Kultus organizers have decided to shift down a gear.

“We will no longer use the large market square, only our own premises – where we also started the ‘Summertime’ events back then,” reports Wehlings. “All of this should be a little smaller and cozier.” To this end, the beer garden bordering the market square will be equipped with sun loungers, parasols and a beach bar. And a small stage will also be set up on which three regional bands can present themselves.

Admission to the “Summertime Festival” is free, hat donations for the artists are requested. The event is sponsored by the “Catching up after Corona” program of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. “We’re happy about that,” says Stefan Wehlings. “Because in this way we can use our money for other actions.”

Another youth café project, which is offered during the summer holidays, is also funded by the state. From July 11th to 16th, young people aged 12 to 20 can build their own longboards in the rectory of St. Peter and Paul. The designer Christian Dünow and the journeyman carpenter Eik Essers will be there to help you. Registrations can now be made by email to [email protected].
