(CRHoy.com) On May 25, the Minister of Health, Joselyn Chacón, stated that she layoffs “distressed” that are presenting themselves in the public sector by employees who do not want to be vaccinated against COVID-19. He stated that these people were fired without even being heard.
When Health was consulted about the number of layoffs that “distressed” the minister, her press spokeswoman indicated that they were updating the data, but that at the moment they were aware of open administrative processes in the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and at the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE).
However, the two aforementioned entities ruled out that there has been any dismissal due to this situation and added that there are only open processes.
According to information from the Bank’s Labor Welfare Department, of the 63,216 workers that the institution has, only 427 have not completed the scheme of immunization against this virus.
From them, 200 are waiting for the period of months to get the third injection; 57 argued a medical contraindication to the biological; 9 face an administrative process; and 161 refuse the vaccine.
These cases correspond to the managements: Administrative, Infrastructure and Technology, Logistics, Pensions, Financial, and Medical. The following infographic shows the distribution of officials who still do not have the three doses and the departments where they work, According to the official information issued by the CCSS to this medium:

The situation is not much different at ICE. The institution’s Operations and Logistics Management highlighted that, out of around 12,000 workers, only 80 have decided not to be vaccinated with the biological one against the virus.
“To date, ICE has not processed any dismissal without employer responsibility due to non-vaccination against COVID-19″, highlighted said management from the department of Corporate Press.
arguments
Chacón also commented that the “layoffs” in public employees have been presented “Perhaps without having heard them before.”
However, in addition to the fact that there are still no dismissals with this justification in these institutions, the officials who face processes for this issue have the opportunity to present medical arguments to refuse the vaccine. Such is the case of the Fund, where 57 employees argued contraindications and did not have to be vaccinated.
The institution confirmed that employees “They were given prevention for the application of the first dose, they are in the evaluation of the medical opinion presented or others, information that each medical center is carrying.”
layoffs
Despite the minister’s anguish, and the information she requested to learn about these cases, the President of the Republic, Rodrigo Chaves, said forcefully that refusing the COVID-19 vaccine yes it will be grounds for dismissal in health sector officials, such is the case of the CCSS.
“Because if a person comes with a deficient, compromised or sick immune system, a healthcare worker should not expose her to any disease, including COVID”commented the president at the press conference he held this weekend during his tour of the North Zone.
