KOMPAS.com – Currently, smartphone become one of the primary needs for most modern humans. Not just a communication tool, smartphones are also an important support for daily activities, from work to entertainment.
This is what makes smartphones seem like an addiction for many people today. However, the dependence on smartphone devices is predicted to decrease drastically in the next decade or in 2030.
This was predicted by the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nokia, Pekka Lundmark. So, what is the reason Lundmark projects this?
According to Lundmark, a turning point for the massive use of smartphones will occur thanks to the commercialization of 6G networks. He predicts that the sixth generation of internet will begin to be used commercially in 2030.

Lundmark believes that with 6G, people will prefer to use wearable devicelike smartwatch, smart band, smart glasses, and so on, to replace the role of smartphones.
This means that smartphones will no longer be as commonly used devices as they are today, because people prefer to use mobile phones wearable device or other electronic products attached to their bodies.
However, Lundmark did not specify, wearable device or what kind of electronic products will be able to replace the position and role of smartphones in 2030, as KompasTekno summarize from Giz China, Tuesday (31/5/2022).
A little about the 6G network. This network has been prepared since 2018 in China. However, its development may still take a long time, because currently the world is still focused on 5G commercialization.

Regular withdrawal from the smartphone market
Lundmark did not explain where his predictions could be deduced. It is also possible, his predictions were wrong.
But what is clear, Nokia itself is already starting to square off from the smartphone market.
HMD Global, as the official licensee for the Nokia brand, announced last March that the company would stop launching smartphones flagship alias cell phone expensive price.

Instead, HMD Global chose to focus on offering feature phones (feature phone), and cheap smartphones in class entry-level and mid-range.
“Creating a phone for $800 (around Rp. 11.3 million) doesn’t make sense to us right now. HMD doesn’t want to get into a massive specs war with other players,” said Adam Ferguson, Head of Product Marketing at HMD Global. Android Authority.
