Entrepreneurs Lose IDR 600 Billion Due to Rob Flood at Tanjung Mas Harbor

Businessman export and imports lost Rp600 billion due to rob flood which inundated and paralyzed loading and unloading activities at Tanjung Mas Port, Semarang. The loss came from the goods in the container which were damaged by the tidal water.

From Customs and Excise data at Tanjung Mas Port, Semarang, there were 713 containers affected by the tidal flood, of which 497 containers had submitted their customs documents with a total value of goods worth US$40,898,744 or around Rp600 billion.

“There are 713 containers affected by the tidal flood, 80 percent or 497 containers have submitted customs documents and we have identified them. The total value of goods is US$ 40 million or Rp. 600 billion,” said Head of the Customs and Excise Service Office of Tanjung Mas Port Semarang, Anton Martin in his office, Monday (30/5) afternoon.

Anton explained that the 497 containers whose customs documents had been submitted were divided into 304 imported containers valued at US$32 million and 96 export containers valued at US$8 million.

Export commodities that are known to be affected by the tidal flood are furniture, semi-processed wood, garments and accessories, shoes and footwear, fish meat and processed food.

Meanwhile, imported commodities affected are raw materials used for the food industry, namely (soybeans & peanuts), and animal feed.

Tidal flash floods occurred at Tanjung Mas Port, Semarang from Monday (23/5) to Friday (27/5) to paralyze container loading and unloading activities and industrial activities.

The collapse of two sea walls exacerbated the tidal flood inundation to a height of 1.5 meters so that thousands of motorbikes and hundreds of cars for workers and employees were trapped by the tidal water.
