Trainer Jos Luhukay will leave VVV-Venlo with immediate effect. De Limburger was still under contract with the club from the Kitchen Champion Division for another year, but concluded after talks with the club management that he had better say goodbye.
“Together with the supervisory board, we have had many discussions about professionalization within the football technical framework of the club. It is to the credit of club man Jos Luhukay that he is now giving others the space to give further substance to this,” says general manager Marco Bogers. .
58-year-old Luhukay was appointed in March last year with the assignment to keep VVV in the Eredivisie. That didn’t work out – the Venlonians finished seventeenth and were relegated directly to the Kitchen Champion Division – but the experienced coach was allowed to sit.
This season, VVV could not participate for promotion. The club finished in tenth place and missed out on a place in the play-offs. The difference with number nine De Graafschap was eight points. Luhukay’s contract was extended in January, but now the collaboration is coming to an end after more than a year.
“I have worked with a lot of dedication, passion and pleasure at ‘my’ VVV”, says Luhukay. “There are many challenges and opportunities to build something beautiful for the longer term. The interest of the club comes first and I think now is an appropriate time for myself and the club to leave this to others.”
Luhukay was working on his first job in the Netherlands at VVV. He mainly worked in Germany, at Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC Augsburg and Hertha BSC, among others.
