In the category “Music”, Jānis Kalniņš’s opera “Hamlets” at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet (musical director and conductor Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, director Kristīna Vuss) was nominated for the finals.
In the category “Cinema” – animated film “Chuchi, Chuchchi”, director Māra Liniņa (studio “Atom Art”).
In the category “Theater” – a performance “Rotkho” at the Daile Theater, directed by Lukash Tvarkovsky.
In the category “Visual Arts” – Anda Munkevica’s solo exhibition “Switches” (Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, curators Iliana Veinberga and Inese Baranovska).
In the category “Literature” – Osvaldas Zebra’s novel “Mežakaija” (publishing house “Dienas grāmata”).
In the category “Pop Culture” – a song and video “Resistance” in support of Ukraine (Katrīna Gupalo and musicians from Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine, creative agency “Ai Production”).
In the category “Starts” – singer Paula Saija for the concert program “Paul and Paula – a new name” and 3rd place in the competition “Riga Jazz Stage 2022”.
In the category “Heritage” – Liepāja 17–19. gs. interior museum “Mrs. Hoijere Guest House” (Liepaja State Municipality, project manager, architect Liesma Markova).
In the category “Surprise” – a poster with a depiction of Vladimir Putin on the cover of the magazine “IR” and opposite the Russian Embassy (artist Krišs Salmanis, Pauls Stradiņš Museum of Medical History).
In the category “Event” – a concert “For the Freedom of Ukraine” on February 25 at the Congress House (initiative of Ralph Eyland, organizers – Riga City Council and the Latvian National Cultural Center).
The works that were recognized by the Latvian Radio, Latvian Television and LSM jury as the most original and high-quality Latvian cultural events, which took place from January to April 30, 2022 and are worthy of fighting for the opportunity to win the Kilogram Culture Award, were put to the spring vote.
About the Kilogram of Culture Award
“Kilograms of Culture” is an award for public media in the field of culture, which confirms the active participation of public media in the processes of Latvian cultural life. The award is given by Latvian Television, Latvian Radio and the Latvian public media portal LSM. The tradition dates back to 2012, when the awards were presented for the brightest cultural events of 2011.
As usual, LTV, LR and LSM cultural professionals work in the jury – Ieva Rozentāle, editor of LTV Cultural Programs, journalists Lilita Eglīte, Anete Ašmane, Daira Āboliņa and Henrieta Verhoustinska, producer of LTV Kultūrdeva program and music journalist Kaspars Zaviļis Klasika “director Gunda Vaivode and journalists Orests Silabriedis, Liene Jakovļeva, LR1 journalist Toms Treibergs, as well as the editor of the LSM culture section of the portal Laila Burāne.
