Tangerang Regency Issues Circular Anticipating Monkeypox

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The Tangerang District Health Office, Banten Province asks residents to be vigilant and improve clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) to prevent the spread of disease monkey pox.

“We have also made a circular (SE) to all health facilities in our work area to be vigilant and educate the public regarding PHBS in anticipating this monkeypox,” said Head of Disease Prevention and Control Division at the Tangerang District Health Office, Dr Sumihar Sihaloho in Tangerang, Sunday.

He said the educational efforts to improve a healthy lifestyle were a response to the monkeypox epidemic, which is currently happening in several countries in Europe.

His party has also instructed all heads of health centers, hospitals and laboratories to conduct socialization and detect the monkeypox disease as early as possible.

“The main thing in preventing monkeypox is to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” he said.

According to Sumihar, monkeypox is caused by the human monkyfox virus (MPXV) orthopoxvirus from the poxviridae family which is highly pathogenic.

With the characteristics of transmission, symptoms such as experiencing high fever, headache, muscle aches and swelling of the lymph nodes in several parts of the body occur.

“After that, it just appears like spots or chickenpox on the body. And if there is direct interaction by shaking hands or touching with people who have been exposed to the disease, transmission will occur,” he explained.

He revealed that monkeypox transmission comes from rodents such as monkeys and rats. The Health Office also cooperates with the local Agriculture and Food Security Service to monitor animal health in the area.

“So we will be wary of the places where monkeys live so that there are no cases of monkeypox found,” he said.
