The corona rules have been relaxed in Beijing. For example, some of the offices and department stores are open again and parks, gyms and cinemas are open again half the time. Restaurants will remain closed, except for takeout and delivery options.
A spokesperson for the municipality says to AP . news agency that a single infection is still detected, but that it is manageable. “This outbreak is under control.”
The measures will also be relaxed further in Shanghai. Residents can only go outside with special passes and for a limited time. Due to the zero-covid approach, there were weeks-long lockdowns instituted in both cities, to the frustration and anger of residents.
Yesterday, 293 new infections were identified in China, 78 of which were from people who came from abroad. Of the domestic infections, 122 were in Shanghai and 21 in Beijing. More than 20 million people live in both cities.
