Just before 06.30 on Saturday morning, it began to hail with telephones to the South-West police district about two ponies that were wandering in the Stavanger area.

– The horses were first on Stokke before they went down to Tjenvollkrysset which is a busy road junction. Then they moved towards the center of Stavanger. Now they are in a street near Mosvannet, says operations manager Jøran Solheim to VG.

– What are the horses doing now?

– They are grazing, but we have not found out who owns them. So what are we going to do? asks the operations manager.

– In India, they have something called “gaushala” – cow prison. You do not have anything similar in Stavanger?

– Haha no. We have called people we know have horses in the area. our challenge is that we must make sure to keep the horses safe. We must try to find someone who can transport them.

The grass by the graveyard

Shortly afterwards, 110 Sør-Vest reported that the horses were located at Eigane’s graveyard.

The fire service has posted pictures of two firefighters holding their ponies with a smile. Judging from the pictures, it looks like the fugitives may be of the Icelandic horse breed.

Police are now hoping that the horse owner – who they assume is sleeping – will wake up.

– We would like to have alarm clocks so the horse owner discovered what has happened. We can joke a little, but this is a serious situation as well, Solheim emphasizes.

– So you’re really looking for a cowboy? You have no lasso-skilled people?

– Yes, we have lasso-skilled, horse-accustomed people in the police, but we do not have the equipment. Right now the fire brigade and the police are on the scene. We need to make sure they stay where they are.

Crowded with people

As the crow flies, the horses have moved about 1.5 kilometers, but the operations manager emphasizes that it is longer on flat ground.

– The horses have walked around the streets. It’s Saturday with people and cars. We need to get someone who can pick up the horses, emphasizes the operations manager.

In an update at 08.06, the police write that Rogaland equestrian center is on its way to take care of the horses. They will be stabled by Rogaland riding club until the owner registers.

Two owners signed up

At 08.25, operations manager Jøran Solheim VG calls with a happy message:

– Now two different owners have signed up! The horses have taken a walk at sunrise. Then we get to bet that a cowboy has control over them tonight and can ride into the sunset, he says.

– Who were the owners?

– A woman called the police. The other owner has called the fire service, says Solheim and emphasizes that the police are happy for a happy ending to the horse drama.
