Lawyer is sentenced to seven years in prison for sexual abuse of two job applicants – Police

Lawyer Willy Wilfredo Arandia Zárate, 62, was found guilty of the crime of sexual abuse committed against two young women who came to his office in November 2020 for a job interview, but suffered indecent touches. The author, a former police officer discharged more than 20 years ago, was sentenced to seven years in prison in El Abra, Cochabamba.

“After assessing all the testimonial, expert and documentary evidence presented by the Public Ministry and the defense of the victims, the judges handed down a seven-year prison sentence in the El Abra prison,” the Justice Observatory lawyer reported yesterday of the Free Voices Foundation, Marcelo Sánchez. Arandia was removed from the olive green institution due to a history of sexual assault. During the process, it was learned that the lawyer had also been denounced for the crimes of rape, fraud and swindling.

In the trial, it was established that on November 18, 2020, the jurist sexually abused two women, aged 18 and 21, in a period of two hours. His first victim was intercepted on the street at 11:00 when the aggressor offered her a job as a secretary and she accompanied him to her office located in a gallery on San Martín Avenue. Arandia showed her images of corpses and naked people on her computer and touched her impudently, despite the fact that she resisted and then fled the scene. She met a police officer from the Security Battalion and told him what had happened and, at 3:00 pm, they returned to the building where another victim was leaving after suffering the same harassment.

Sánchez said that the convicted lawyer will not be taken to prison immediately because in 2021 he benefited from personal measures and, if he does not violate them or procedural risks are set up, he could wait in freedom for the sentence to be executed to just enter El Abra.
