JawaPos.com-Spanish health authorities reported 25 additional cases of monkeypox on Thursday (26/5). So, the total at one of the main points of the current outbreak is 84 cases.
The Ministry of Health now considers all non-human smallpox infections as monkeypox after testing positive. Previously, only counted confirmed cases through sequencing.
According to them, there are 73 suspected cases of monkeypox. Health Minister Carolina Darias said Wednesday that Spain would purchase the monkeypox vaccine as part of a joint EU vaccine purchase and ensure that the west African variant, which has a mortality rate in about 1 percent of cases, is detected in Spain.
Spain, Britain and Portugal are the countries with the highest cases in the current outbreak of the disease, which is usually mild outside of its endemic areas in west and central Africa.
Spanish Health Minister Carolina Darias said the government would buy the Imvanex vaccine made by the Danish company Bavarian Nordic. However, he did not specify the number of doses.
“We will distribute the vaccine proportionally among the 17 regions of Spain,” Darias said at a press conference as reported by Between in Madrid.
