Benjamin Robert confirms his good start to the season in the 800m at the Toulouse meeting

Benjamin Robert has decided to occupy the land at the start of the summer season. Very solid for his return to Montgeron (2nd in 1’45”19), the Toulousain followed up with a second place in the Birmingham Diamond League last weekend (1’46”22), followed the next day a well-run second round of Interclubs (1st in 1’46”06). This Thursday in Toulouse, the local finished 3rd in the 800m in 1’45”28.

In a race set up for him at the meeting of his club SATUC, the French international followed the hare’s rapid start before seeing the Algerian Yassine Hethat attack him 250m from the line. Robert clung in the home stretch to finally complete the line in 3rd position in 1’45”28 behind Hethat (1’44”43) and his compatriot Abdenouz (1’44”98).

A time which however confirms his good form at the start of the season (European minima) for those who are chasing after the world minima (1’44”70). A sesame that also intends to get his club partner Djilali Bedrani.

Bedrani stopped by quadriceps pain

The 5th of the 2019 Worlds in the 3,000m steeplechase returned to his favorite distance since his elimination in the Tokyo Olympics series last summer. However, in a very open steeplechase (victory for the Moroccan Mohamed Tindouft in 8’20”12), the Toulousain put on the indicator light after 1,800m of racing, following pain felt in the left quadriceps during a passage of hedges.

Already bothered by an inflammation of the patellar tendon of the left knee for several weeks, Bedrani will make a physical inventory in the coming days before resuming the course of his season.
