Airlines at Schiphol have slots, a slot is the time at which an aircraft may take off or land. The new rules mean that an airline does not have to worry about a competitor filling the gap. Airlines will also keep the rights to a slot if they don’t use it this summer.
Fewer flights
Schiphol expects that with the amended rules, airlines will return some of their slots sooner, if the aircraft is empty or half empty, for example. The rule should ensure that fewer flights will depart and there will therefore be less crowds at the airport.
The slot coordinator took this decision together with Schiphol. The new rules apply from June 1 to August 28. The entire package of measures will be published today to alleviate the chaos at the airport.
