Schiphol has introduced new rules for take-off and landing rights, which should ensure that fewer flights depart from Schiphol this summer. Due to these new rules, time slots of one airline will no longer be filled by another airline if they are not used.
Airlines are given a slot in which an aircraft can take off or land. Now that these can no longer be filled automatically, Schiphol believes that airlines will return these slots sooner. “That leads to fewer flights and allows better planning.”
Airlines also retain the rights to a slot if they do not use it this summer, Schiphol reports.
The new rules will apply from June 1 to August 28 and are part of a package of measures to reduce congestion at the airport. More measures will be announced on Thursday.
