Mercedes Vision AMG: The futuristic concept predicts the future of Affalterbach cars

Once “just” a modifier, Mercedes-Benz’s recently integrated division in Affalterbach, Germany, has introduced a concept to predict its future. Despite how futuristic it looks, moreover, not so distant – the production version of the Vision AMG, as the car is called, is due to appear in 2025.

It will of course be an electric car, the first model standing on the AMG.EA platform being developed. AMG is preparing this with a view to making the cars built on it lower and sportier than is possible with the EVA platform, which supports, for example, the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

“We make full use of the possibilities of the new platform in design and proportions,” says Robert Lešnik, chief exterior designer at Mercedes. “Vision AMG shows what we’re planning – a low and sleek sedan with amazing aerodynamics and space to comfortably seat four adults,” he adds.

“Without the constraints of having to install an internal combustion engine in the bow, we were able to make the hood low and add more volume to the wheel sides. The AMG.EA platform gives us a lot of freedom in terms of design, ”he adds.

Sportiness is underlined by the greater distance of the center of the front wheels from the windshield, a long sloping roof and a low “greenhouse”. However, it is difficult to call the glazed part of the cabin like this when there is not much glazing; one of the things that will definitely change into the production form is the addition of windows to the upper parts of the door.

The carmaker has already announced that the windows will be frameless and the rear of the car will get a fifth door, so it will be a liftback. Autocar also writes that the six red circles at the stern, which resemble exhaust tailpipes here, will be incorporated into the taillights.

As with the older Vision EQXX concept, which is quite similar to the Vision AMG body shape, aerodynamics are very important here. The car can extend part of the rear diffuser and also tilt the spoiler as needed. Active aerodynamic elements are also in the wheels, but this is again an element that we do not expect to go into series production.

The carmaker did not publish much other information about the car’s technology, so we do not know the planned capacity or battery architecture, range on a single charge, charging time or dynamic parameters. But we will certainly find out everything by the start of sales in a few years.
