The slalom season is on! The first events of the season are the European Championships, which are held in Liptovsky – Mikulas (Slovakia). A total of 13 sailors have been selected to take part in this first competition of the year. The main objective for Rémi Gaspard, performance director of the French Canoe-Kayak Federation (FFCK) also in charge of slalom is “to bring France to the best possible rank in the ranking of nations”. The tricolors, on the other hand, have no quantified objectives in terms of medals. “We don’t work that way. It’s too pretentious to say that we want gold medals in every event. The goal is podiums and medals. It goes through the density of athletes that we can place in the finals. »
The Worlds in high point
Les Bleus will be able to count on leaders such as Denis Gargaud-Chenut, Olympic champion in 2016 and defending champion on the continental scene, Nicolas Gestin, holder of numerous medals in the youth categories. “In each category we have athletes who are committed to winning the medal”, continues Gaspard. The tricolor contingent could therefore return to France with their bags full.
