Texas Gov. Greg Abbott confirms that 14 students and one teacher were killed.
According to the governor, the perpetrator is an 18-year-old man from Uvalde.
– He shot and killed 14 students and a teacher in a terrible and incomprehensible way, says Abbott.
The chief of police in Uvalde, Pete Arredondo, confirms that the perpetrator is dead. He must have acted alone.
Arredondo does not confirm the number of dead or injured.
There were students between 7 and 10 years old, in the second, third and fourth stages of school when the shooting happened.
Abbott says the perpetrator used a handgun and probably a rifle. He emphasizes that it has not been confirmed.
On Tuesday at 12:17 local time – 19.17 Norwegian time – the authorities in the city of Uvalde in Texas announced that shooting was taking place at the primary school Robb Elementary School.
A large number of police officers moved out, and all schools in the area were closed.
Two policemen are said to have been shot during the exchange with the perpetrator. They should not have significant damage.
US President Joe Biden has been informed of the incident, according to Reuters, and has announced that he will make a statement during the evening US time.
Biden has decided that it will be flown at half-mast outside the White House and other public buildings “as a sign of respect for the victims”, reports the news agency Reuters.

A woman tells a local TV channel that her granddaughter was shot in the leg, but survived.

The perpetrator is said to have previously been a student at Uvalde High School.
