Fighting continues to rage across much of eastern and southern Ukraine with most fighting ending in long-range artillery clashes between the Ukrainian and Russian militaries.
For much of the war, Ukraine relied on its own Soviet-era howitzer cannon, but in recent weeks advanced artillery systems from friendly nations, including the M777 United States of America (USA), has reached the forefront.
Washington and European countries have poured billions of dollars in weapons into Ukraine to help the country’s troops have the weapons to better defeat the Russian invaders.
After asking for heavier long-range weapons, the Ukrainian military said the newly provided artillery system had already proven useful on the battlefield.

“In the name of the Ukrainian artillerymen who shot down the M777, this is like switching from a steam train to an electric car,” Captain Lieutenant Dmytro Pletenchuk, from the Mykolaiv regional military administration, told AFP during a recent interview. Strait TimesTuesday (24/5/2022).
Plentenchuk did not divulge where the long-range weapon was used on the front line.
“These systems are already in use by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and they are being used with great success,” said Pletenchuk.
