However, UKHSA stressed that while the outbreak was worrying, the risk to Britons remained low. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said his government was looking carefully at the circumstances surrounding the contagion.

“This is basically a very rare disease and so far the consequences don’t seem too serious, but it’s important that we keep an eye on it,” Johnson told reporters.
UKHSA reiterates that infections do not usually spread easily between people. “In addition to reports of further cases being identified in other countries globally, we are continuing to identify additional cases in the UK,” said UKHSA Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Susan Hopkins in a statement.
“The vast majority of recent cases in the UK and Europe have been found in gay and bisexual men, so we particularly encourage these men to be aware of the symptoms.”

The UKHSA has advised that high-risk close contacts of confirmed cases should be isolated for 21 days.
