The DGT uses camouflaged motorcycles to monitor the roads, true or false? — Autobild.es

It is said, it is commented what the DGT is using camouflaged motorcycles to monitor the roads. And while part of this statement is correct, to say the truth and nothing but the truthit is necessary to make some refinement.

An image is circulating on social networks in which a Civil Guard traffic agent appears next to a large displacement motorcycle without labeling. The agent in question is wearing a reflective vest as the only element that reveals that he is a member of the Benemérita.

The use of camouflaged motorcycles to watch the roads has the same justification as the unmarked patrol vehicles and camouflaged vans that Tráfico long ago added to its Inventory surveillance tools: that drivers do not identify them and stop committing the offence, especially if it involves the use of mobile phones or other distractions.

Camouflaged motorcycles: where will you find them

However, although the use of unmarked motorcycles as a surveillance system has been assessed on several occasions by the DGT, it is not, at the moment, something common.

The images circulating these days on social networks correspond to roads in Pontevedra where the Civil Guard Command confirms having used camouflaged motorcycles as part of the deployment carried out during the last special motorcycle surveillance campaign (on May 7 and 8).

After the consultation carried out by Autobild.es, they confirm that although it will not be daily, it will be usual for unmarked motorcycles to be part of the surveillance work.

“From the Pontevedra Traffic Subsector, regardless of the campaigns that the DGT may foresee, this type of device will continue, especially on weekends in which the weather allows or favors the increase of displacements in this type of vehicles”, they affirm.

“In addition to the labeled vehicles, camouflaged motorcycles will be used, with plainclothes officers wearing official reflective vests”they add.

We have consulted other sources close to the Civil Traffic Guard who claim to be unaware that this practice is going to spread to the rest of the provinces.
