As some users report, WhatsApp is expected to stop working on iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11 on October 24. Screenshots shared on social networks inform that mobile phones must be updated to continue using the application.

WhatsApp plans to stop supporting iPhone models running iOS 10 and iOS 11. The messaging platform will no longer work on devices running these two versions of Apple’s operating system, as the app has started asking users to download the latest available update to continue using the app.
WhatsApp’s support pages were also able to confirm the messages spotted on the application by users. The app will now only support mobile devices running iOS 12 or later. For other operating systems, WhatsApp will require Android 4.1 or later and KaiOS 2.5.0.

Which iPhones will soon no longer be compatible with WhatsApp?
Such a change means that devices like the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C will no longer have access to WhatsApp in the coming months. For their part, iPhone 5S users will still be able to update the WhatsApp application without any problem, since the smartphone can download the iOS 12 operating system.
Selon WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will stop supporting the iPhones mentioned above from October 24, 2022, i.e. in 5 months. As a reminder, WhatsApp will also have abandoned iPhones running iOS 9 a year earlier, on November 1, 2021. If WhatsApp keeps this schedule, we can therefore already expect the application to abandon devices running iOS 12 at the end of the year 2023.
Owners of old iPhones will therefore be invited to buy a newer model if they still want to enjoy the WhatsApp application. As a reminder, applications stop supporting old operating systems for security reasons, since these old versions are often full of bugs. The proliferation of supported versions also wastes a lot of time for developers, which reduces the frequency of updates.
