Son Heung-min won the golden shoe in Premier League this season together Mohamed Salah. Son also became the first Asian player to win the title.
Son scored two goals when Tottenham Hotspur bulldozed Norwich City 5-0 at Carrow Road, Sunday (22/5/2022) early morning WIB. The brace makes Son perched first in the Premier League’s top scorer list with 23 goals.
The man from South Korea was not alone at the top. There was Mohamed Salah from Liverpool who accompanied him after adding one goal in his team’s 3-1 win over Wolves.
Son also became the first Asian player to become the top scorer in the Premier League. If you refer to the other five top European leagues (England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France), Son is also the first Asian player.
“It’s amazing to get this award. I can’t believe it. I was really emotional. I dreamed of it since I was a kid. It’s literally in my hands. I couldn’t believe it,” Son told the BBC.
Son admits he was frustrated at not making the most of his chances. However, the help of his colleagues made the lead to become the Premier League’s top scorer achievable.
“In the end I got a goal. I was really frustrated because I missed a golden opportunity. I told the players that I missed the easiest chance,” Son revealed.
“I didn’t give up. I wanted to score today. The team helped me a lot. In the first half they wanted to help me, you could see that today.”
Tottenham managed to finish the season by finishing in fourth place and earning a ticket to the Champions League. This also makes Arsenal bite the finger.
