Brawijaya University (UB) Malang has appointed a new Chancellor for the period 2022-2027. This chosen figure is Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D.Med.Sc.
The decision was made through the Plenary Session of the Board of Trustees (MWA) which was held in UB’s Rectorate Building, 6th floor on Saturday (21/5/2022) yesterday. There were 17 members of the MWA who were present and chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy.
“Today MWA has held a plenary meeting for the election of UB rector. The results of the election have been carried out and agreed upon by consensus deliberation attended by complete MWA members. The point is that everything is unanimous and stipulates that Prof. Widodo as UB rector for the period 2022-2027,” said Muhadjir, quoted from the campus website.
On this occasion, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture said that the decision regarding the new UB Chancellor was taken by listening to the voices of all MWA members, including the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) through Plt. Secretary of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Tjitjik Sri Thahjandarie.
Prof. Widodo will be officially inaugurated by Mendikbudristek Nadiem Makarim after the current Rector of UB ends, June 2022. Currently, the future Rector of UB in the next five years is currently serving as Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA).
New Rector of UB 2022-2027
A figure who once served as Head of the Biology Department University Barawijaya this is a former student of UB in 1992-1998. It is stated that through data from the UB Biology page, the focus of research is Prof. Widodo at the undergraduate level was in cell biology.
He then continued his master’s degree at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1998-2001. Three years later, Prof. Widodo continued his education at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, until 2008.
Some of the achievements that he has achieved include UB’s Outstanding Lecturer in 2015, Young Scientist from Kalbe-Ristek in 2012, Best Original Paper Award from Nestle Nutrition Council Japan in 2007, and so on.
Recorded in the same source, Prof. Widodo is actively working on a number of studies. One of them, which was carried out in 2020-2022 with the title COVID-19 Like Particle Virus (VLP) Development as a Vaccine Candidate. This research was supported by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
Elected Chancellor Brawijaya University 2022-2027 is also active in giving various presentations, both domestically and abroad. One of them was in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 2018 through The 25th Biennial Congress of the European Association for Cancer Research.
